Cream Farewell Concert Royal Albert Hall Torrent blofelt

. . it is one of the most successful live recordings by any rock band. To mark the 40th anniversary of this concert, the original album was remastered and reissued by Eagle Records on 19 November 2010. It has been described as the only official film recording of the Royal Albert Hall show and a live album of which Eric Clapton once said: "To me, this is the only concert that holds a candle to the great ones.". The album reached number one in the UK Albums Chart. Overview The farewell concert was billed as "the end of an era" and indeed that was exactly the case. Cream had been formed in London in 1966 by Eric Clapton (guitar and lead vocals), Jack Bruce (bass), Ginger Baker (drums) and Peter Whitehead (keyboards). The four musicians were sons of working-class parents from Liverpool. For their first two years of existence, they played at various small venues. In 1967, their first album was released and was met with moderate sales success. Their second album, Disraeli Gears, became a huge seller, prompting Cream to play a lengthy US tour in late 1967. The period after Cream's break-up in 1968 was particularly rough for Clapton. In 1968 he was arrested on charges of "dull-wounding" with a lye-based hand cleaner after an incident at the London Playboy Club. He spent four days in jail, and a £1,000 bail was placed, which necessitated the sale of his Porsche, and a year's ban on using LSD. In an attempt to distract himself from his problems, he formed and fronted a supergroup that included former Cream singer Bruce, jazz guitarist George Harrison and future guitarist Jeff Beck. They became known as Blind Faith, and their eponymous debut album was released in May 1968. Blind Faith dissolved after less than a year. When the band decided to reform, they had only one certainty: that they were going to play in the same band. The only requirement was that they would continue to play at the Royal Albert Hall. This event, the first time a rock band played the famed venue since the Beatles had headlined there in 1965, marked the beginning of Clapton's return to form. Cream played the concert at the Royal Albert Hall on 26 November 1968. The show was filmed and a small private screening took place at the Royal Albert Hall the following day. Prior to the
